Daniel Grayling "Dan" Fogelberg (August 13, 1951 – December 16, 2007) was an American musician, songwriter, composer, and multi-instrumentalist whose music was inspired by sources as diverse as folk, pop, rock, classical, jazz, and bluegrass. He is best known for his early 1980 hit "Longer" and his late 1981 hit "Leader of the Band."

1Dan's mother, Margaret, was happy to state that Dan was a "Rob Roy Macgregor".
2After his death, Jill Greulich (nee Anderson) revealed herself as the ex-girlfriend referred to in "Same Auld Lang Syne". They ran into each other in December 1975, while visiting their respective families in Peoria.
